DIABETIC DONT'S AND A FEW DO'S

Diabetic feet need special care. Here are a few things diabetics should never do and what they should do instead.

1. Don't treat corns or calluses yourself. Do have them treated by a professional podiatrist.

2. Don't go barefoot. Do wear the footwear we've recommended.

3. Don't soak your feet. Soaking indiscriminately can cause skin to dry and crack, which can lead to ulcers. Do soak your feet per our directions when prescribed for a specific reason.

4. Don't cut your nails yourself if you have peripheral vascular disease or neuropathy. Do have us do it for you.

5. Don't use heating pads on your feet or step into the bath without first testing the water. Do use caution to avoid burning your feet.
